Are credit repair companies legal? Is hiring one a good idea if My Credit is bad? And what can they do for me that I can't do for myself? The Controversial Truth About Credit Clinics, Companies and Attorneys

They have the 100% legal right to exist, and do business to help you fix your report. The FCRA allows for consumers to "assign" and outsource help with their report to outside parties and there is even an entire Legal Act (The Credit Repair Organizations Act) which outlines what they can, and cannot due in your behalf.

When you hear the Credit Bureau'S trying to imply that it's illegal to hire these companies?

Don't believe it. It's not....and you are more than welcome to check the laws above for yourself! (as well you should) Consumer Credit repair costs the bureaus tens of millions of dollars a year...and by some estimates, even more. (they are NOT a fan of the rights you and I have to challenge what they report about us for sure...and it shouldn't be a surprise at all)

You do NOT need A Credit repair clinic, company or attorney to fix your report. As a matter of fact, I would argue, while they ARE in fact legal...they are generally, for most of us, a complete and utter waste of money. Why? For the average person, fixing their OWN credit is faster, far less expensive, frustrating and much more rewarding as well!

There is NOTHING that one of the companies above can do for you that you can't do for yourself....and that is the ONE truth that just about everyone agrees on!
